“CONCERT FOR LIFE” TO REMEMBER THOSE
LOST TO CANCER AND CELEBRATE SURVIVORS
Released:
2/5/04
MILWAUKEE , WI – Cancer is a very personal thing for Matt Wessel
. Back in 1997 at the age of 16, he shared the regular struggles
of every high school student. However, he also had to contend
with the loss of his father to cancer at age 47. His aunt succumbed
to the disease as well, while his mother is a cancer survivor.
Through those experiences, he has written a number of songs about
hope, life and faith. Matt is now a Marquette alum (2003) and
employee and plans to share his music and raise money for the
American Cancer Society at the “Concert For Life,” which will
take place on February 12 th at 7:30 PM in the Weasler Auditorium
on the Marquette campus. See www.mu.edu/weasler
for a map. All proceeds go directly to the American
Cancer Society.
"Cancer has definitely had a huge impact on my life and
the life of those around me,” says Wessel. “This concert gives
us a chance to remember those who have passed away from the disease
and celebrate those who have survived it.”
Wessel has recorded five albums and raised over $25,000 for the
American Cancer Society at various concerts. As a Marquette student,
he spent three years working as a Liturgical Music Assistant for
University Ministry. In November of 2002, Matt Wessel helped raise
$1,500 for the American Cancer Society during a concert at Marquette
.
Doors will open at 7:00 PM and there will be an art showing before
the show begins. Refreshments will be served afterwards. A requested
donation of $5 dollars is payable at the door.
