Marquette Celebrates Reunion Weekend

Released: July 27, 2006

Alumni from across the country will return to Milwaukee this weekend as Marquette University celebrates Alumni Reunion weekend with events planned from Friday, July 28, through Sunday, July 30.  Also this weekend, Marquette will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the university’s renowned physical therapy program.

Events for reunion weekend begin Friday afternoon with check in and an afternoon of reflection in the Chapel of the Holy Family, followed by a mass.   Additionally, tours of the John P. Raynor, S.J. Library, the Patrick and Beatrice Haggerty Museum of Art, the Al McGuire center and general campus tours will be conducted all afternoon.  People interested in venturing off campus can take a Miller Brewery Tour and a Lakefront Brewery Tour.   Marquette University archives will have a special exhibit featuring photographs, documentary film footage, publications and other treasures from 1959 to 2006 set up in the union on Friday and Saturday.  ROTC will host an open house following the retirement of colors at the flagpole outside the Marquette Gymnasium.

Saturday’s events begin with a 5K run or a one-mile walk around the Marquette campus.  The day also includes campus tours and open houses in each of the colleges.  Saturday afternoon alumni can take part in the annual block party featuring volleyball, pop-a-shot, a caricaturist and live music.  The Alumni Bash caps off Saturday’s events with dinner and dancing outside on Westowne Square.

Alumni reunion weekend concludes Sunday with a mass at Gesu Church, Champagne brunch at the union and an afternoon Milwaukee Brewers game.

For detailed information on Reunion Weekend, please go to the schedule of events on the Marquette alumni Web site.

The weekend will also commemorate the 50th anniversary of the physical therapy program and celebrate Dr. Larry Nosse’s 34 years of dedicated service to the program.  Events planned for Friday will include presentations from current physical therapy instructors all day followed by a reception and dinner. See the alumni Web site for further details on the physical therapy presentations.
