Judge Diane Schwerm Sykes to be Honored

MILWAUKEE- The Honorable Diane Schwerm Sykes, judge on the
7 th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, will be honored by the
Marquette University Alumni Association at its annual Alumni
National Awards Dinner on Saturday, April 23. Sykes will be
awarded the Alumni Merit Award for Professional Achievement.
After graduating from Marquette University Law School in
1984, Sykes practiced law with the Milwaukee law firm of Whyte
& Hirschboeck, S.C., and served as a law clerk for federal
Judge Terence Evans. She was elected to the Milwaukee
County Circuit Court in 1992, and served there until her appointment
to the Wisconsin Supreme Court in 1999. Sykes was nominated
by President George W. Bush to the 7 th U.S. Circuit Court
of Appeals and was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on June 24,
2004.
The Alumni National Awards dinner is part of Marquette University's
Alumni Awards weekend, during which each college honors the
contributions of their alumni and bestows awards on those
demonstrating exceptional achievement.
