Jazz Scholarships to be awarded at free concert

Released: Feb. 21, 2005

The finalists for the Woody Herman-Sister Fabian Jazz Scholarship award will be presented in performances during the sixth annual Woody Herman Tribute Concert on Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005.  Hosted by Marquette University, the free concert will be presented at the Varsity Theatre. Performances will begin at 2:00 p.m., and will also feature the East Town Jazz Orchestra and the Marquette University Jazz Ensemble.

The selected finalists were chosen based on their solo talent presented during the performance of their individual high school jazz ensembles at the 36 th Annual Jazz Invitational, hosted at Marquette University.  The scholarship finalists are: Nate Gruber of Brookfield Central High School; Matt Kuehl, of Oconomowoc High School; and Scott Janowiak of Marquette University High School.

The event will include a silent auction featuring musical items and instruments, the proceeds of which will benefit the Woody Herman Scholarship.  Donations to the Woody Herman-Sister Fabian Scholarship will also be gladly accepted.
