MILWAUKEE -- About 100 residents from area nursing homes will
put on their dancing shoes for the Senior Citizen Prom this Sunday,
March 21 from 2-4 p.m. at Marquette University in the Alumni Memorial
Union's Marquette Place at 1442 W. Wisconsin Ave.
Marquette students will be on hand to dance with
senior citizens at the event. Both the students and the seniors
will take part in a type of dance competition. Prizes will be
awarded to the best dancers in a number of categories. Rev. Andy
Thon, S.J. will work as the D.J. for most of the dance. The Naturals,
a Marquette men's a cappella group, will sing a few selections
starting at 3 p.m.
The event is sponsored by Marquette University 's Center for
Community Service. Each year, Marquette students, faculty, staff
and alumni perform more than 100,000 hours of community service.
Our university's strong community engagement is rooted in its
mission to develop leaders expressed in the service of others.
Most Marquette students perform some type of community service
during their time at the university.
The event is free and open to the public. Media
can park in Parking Structure 1, located at 749 N. 16 th St .
Street parking is also available along Wells Street on the north
side of the union.
