Assistant Director for Milwaukee Projects
Kathryn Hein joins Marquette
after nearly three decades in government
Released:
March 23, 2005
Marquette University is pleased to announce that Kathryn
Hein has joined the university as assistant director-Milwaukee
for the Les Aspin Center for Government. Hein will oversee
the creation of a local and state internship program to complement
the internships in federal government already offered through
the Les Aspin Center in Washington, D.C.
Hein joins Marquette with a distinguished career of nearly
30 years in state and federal government. She served
as Chief of Staff to former U.S. Representative Jerry Kleczka
throughout his 20 year tenure in Congress. In addition,
Hein was a senior aide to Congressman Les Aspin and served
in the office of Governor Pat Lucey.
"Marquette and the Les Aspin Center in particular are
extraordinarily fortunate to have someone with Kathy Hein's
experience and exceptional expertise on our team. Her career
in government has been marked by a dedication to service,
and she will be an excellent example for our students as she
develops a new presence for the Aspin Center in state and
local government,” said Rev. Timothy J. O'Brien, director
of the Les Aspin Center.
In addition to implementing a state and local internship
program, Hein will oversee special events and other Milwaukee-based
projects for the Les Aspin Center. Since 1984, more
than 1200 students from Marquette and other institutions have
interned in congressional offices, the White House, and federal
agencies as they live and take classes just blocks from the
United State Capitol. In the Jesuit tradition, the Les
Aspin Center for Government strives for the full development
of ethical leaders dedicated to public service through a hands-on
internship experience and rigorous academic coursework.
