The national law firm of Quarles & Brady LLP announced that
Marquette University is this year's recipient of the firm's Real
Estate Excellence Award. Marquette was recognized for the $150
million it has invested to make existing buildings and new buildings
around the Downtown Milwaukee campus more attractive and viable.
Marquette University is continually improving and upgrading
its facilities and, in turn, enhancing our community,” said Larry
Jost, a partner with Quarles & Brady and chair of its 50-lawyer
real estate group. “We are pleased to recognize the University
for its efforts by presenting it with this award. Marquette is
a shining example of excellence in real estate and exemplifies
the qualities that we strive to acknowledge with this award.”
The award is given in recognition of significant contributions
within the real estate industry, focusing on those that benefit
the community. Quarles & Brady is also establishing the Quarles
& Brady Scholarship Real Estate Fund that will help support
Marquette University's new undergraduate and graduate real estate
programs.
During the past three years, Marquette University has invested
$150 million into campus and neighborhood improvements. The University
is currently investing approximately $8 million in a campus identity
and beautification project to improve the appearance of the campus,
including constructing a new median with ornamental fencing along
Wisconsin Avenue and planting new trees in the median and throughout
campus.
Marquette has also constructed a $35 million state-of-the-art
dental school building that is now attracting international attention
for its new approach to dental education. Additionally, the $55
million John P. Raynor Library opened in the fall of 2003, which
is home to cutting-edge technology and a 4,800-square-foot cybe
café. The University also invested $31 million in the Al
McGuire Athletic Center, is currently constructing a $12.8 million
parking structure and an $8 million campus town addition. “We
would like to commend Marquette University for its commitment
to investing in its campus and the community,” said Jost.
