Marquette Students, Staff and Alumni Volunteer for Hunger Clean-Up Released: April 20, 2006 MILWAUKEE – Nearly 1,400 Marquette University students, faculty, staff and alumni will participate in the 17th annual Hunger Clean-Up on April 22, 2006.  The event begins at 9 a.m. at Westowne Square, next to the Alumni Memorial Union (1442 W. Wisconsin Ave.), with team check-in and an invocation by Rev. Robert A. Wild, S.J., president of Marquette University. **Photo Note: All 1,400 volunteers will gather at Marquette at 9 a.m. They will then participate in service projects at approximately 60 sites throughout the Milwaukee area.  For specific times and locations, please contact Brigid O’Brien Miller in the Office of Marketing and Communication at 414-288-7445. The annual event is coordinated entirely by students through Marquette University's Center for Community Service. In addition to volunteering on the day of the event, students raise approximately $20,000 through pledges to support the work of community agencies in the greater Milwaukee area.  This year the grants will be awarded to the Central City Churches for the “Empowerment for Employment” project, Mount Carmel Health and Rehabilitation Center’s “Garden of the Senses” for patients with Alzheimer’s, and Common Ground Ministry Elena’s House for its outreach program, “Another Chance at Life,” for people living with HIV/AIDS. Nearly 90 percent of Marquette undergraduate students participate in some form of service during their college experience.
