Marquette University has responded to the changing
demands of the business world to create a new undergraduate major
in Entrepreneurship. Beginning this fall, the new major complements
Marquette 's nationally recognized program that was recently awarded
a Top 10 ranking in the May, 2004 issue of Entrepreneur
magazine. Now for the first time, students can declare Entrepreneaurship
as a second major in the College of Business , and follow a clear
course of study and a framework from which to see a career as
an entrepreneur in the context of the global economy.
The popularity of entrepreneurial programs is growing nationwide.
A recent report by the Chronicle of Higher Education
showed that 39.5 percent of all incoming freshmen “entering 437
four-year colleges and universities in the fall of 2002” considered
“becoming successful in a business of my own” an “essential or
very important objective.” U.S. News and World Report
has also recognized the growing importance of entrepreneurial
curriculum by assigning a separate category ranking entrepreneurship
program.
Top 10 Ranking
Entrepreneur 's annual evaluation of the
best entrepreneurship programs at U.S. colleges and universities
is the most credible and comprehensive analysis of its kind. The
final rankings are based on research into more than 825 entrepreneurship
programs, ranking more than 70 separate criteria, including course
offerings, teaching and research faculty, business-community outreaches,
research centers and institutes, degrees and certificates offered,
and faculty and alumni evaluations.
"Today's business leaders must be prepared to thrive in
an entrepreneurial environment,” said Dr. David Shrock, Dean of
the Marquette University College of Business Administration. “We
are proud to offer our students a comprehensive program emphasizing
hands-on experience, mentorship, and first-rate academic preparation
for success as entrepreneurs.”
