Wisconsin Institute for Peace and Conflict Studies
To Hold 20th Annual Conference

Released: October 5, 2004

MILWAUKEE – While war reports are included in every daily newspaper and nightly newscast, and as terrorist threats are a leading topic in this year's presidential election, Marquette University is proud to host experts in the field of Peace and Conflict as they gather to address strategies for a more peaceful and secure world.

Experts from across the United States and around the world will visit Marquette as part of the 20th annual conference of the Wisconsin Institute for Peace and Conflict Studies. The conference will address issues ranging from the promotion of peace and justice to wars, propaganda and memory.

Slated to run Wednesday, October 6th through Friday, October 8th, 2004 , the conference will feature Keynote speaker Dr. Kevin P. Clements, Professor and Director of the Australian Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies at the University of Queensland . Clements is also a former Secretary General of International Alert, a London-based multinational nongovernmental organization dedicated to addressing root causes of violence and contributing to the just and peaceful transformation of violent internal conflict, as well as having served as an advisor to the governments of New Zealand, Australia, Great Britain, Sweden and the Netherlands on conflict prevention, peace, defense and security issues.
