To Hold 20th Annual Conference

MILWAUKEE – While war reports are included in every
daily newspaper and nightly newscast, and as terrorist threats
are a leading topic in this year's presidential election, Marquette
University is proud to host experts in the field of Peace and
Conflict as they gather to address strategies for a more peaceful
and secure world.
Experts from across the United States and around
the world will visit Marquette as part of the 20th annual conference
of the Wisconsin Institute for Peace and Conflict Studies. The
conference will address issues ranging from the promotion of peace
and justice to wars, propaganda and memory.
Slated to run Wednesday, October 6th through Friday,
October 8th, 2004 , the conference will feature Keynote speaker
Dr. Kevin P. Clements, Professor and Director of the Australian
Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies at the University of Queensland
. Clements is also a former Secretary General of International
Alert, a London-based multinational nongovernmental organization
dedicated to addressing root causes of violence and contributing
to the just and peaceful transformation of violent internal conflict,
as well as having served as an advisor to the governments of New
Zealand, Australia, Great Britain, Sweden and the Netherlands
on conflict prevention, peace, defense and security issues.
