Attend Educational Seminar
Released:
Oct. 28,2004
Marquette University will hold a Louie Bellson Retrospective
Educational Seminar in the Varsity Theatre on Saturday,
October 30. The seminar will be followed by a
concert featuring the internationally known percussion artist,
Louie Bellson, on Sunday, October 31.
Sponsored in-part by the Interstate Music Company of
New Berlin and the East Town Association, band directors
and their students have been invited to attend an open rehearsal
and educational seminar in the Varsity Theatre, featuring
the Milwaukee Area Percussion Orchestra, under the direction of
Jim Sewrey, and the Original Milwaukee Jazz Orchestra, under the
direction of Dr. Nick Contorno, with Mr. Bellson.
There will be more than twenty-five professional and pro-amateur
percussionists who will be performing in the percussion ensemble,
including musicians from the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, the
Waukesha Area Symphonic Band, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee
Music Department's Percussion Studio, the Drum Instructors' Guild,
and the Wisconsin Lutheran College Symphony Band. Two previously
published works of Louie Bellson's will be featured by the percussion
ensemble with Bellson at the drums, and special scorings of selected
Bellson charts, that have been especially prepared for this occasion,
by arranger JD Morsch.
Louie Bellson has become an international legend in his time.
His appearance will be honored by the University during the concert,
which begins at 2:00 p.m. in the Varsity Theatre on Sunday, October
31. The public is invited. A suggested donation of $15 would
be appreciated. Following the afternoon's concert, Mr. Bellson
will be available for conversation and autographs.
