Hydrite Chemical Co. has generously donated $50,000 to help
the Marquette University Department of Chemistry kickoff a
$2 million fundraising campaign to renovate Marquette's chemistry
lab facilities. Hydrite will give an additional $100,000 over
the next two years as certain fundraising milestones are met.
"We greatly appreciate Hydrite Chemical Co.'s leadership
in our renovation fundraising efforts. Their generosity will
make a significant impact on the Marquette education of the
next generation of scientists, science teachers, engineers,
and health professionals, notes Dr. Jeanne Hossenlopp, associate
professor and chair of the department of chemistry.
The $2 million fundraising campaign is part of a larger commitment
by the university to renovate the Todd Wehr Chemistry Building.
Outside donations will be used exclusively to renovate the
second floor of the Wehr Chemistry building, which houses
Marquette's general chemistry labs. More than a third of all
Marquette undergraduate students will use the labs while at
Marquette and the renovation will result in a state-of-the-art
"Marquette University is a tremendous asset to the community
and the State of Wisconsin, said Mike Honkamp, Vice President
of Operations at Hydrite Chemical Co. We welcome the opportunity
to be a part of their future.
A smart classroom on the third floor will be named for Hydrite
Chemical Co. to honor their donation. This classroom features
computers embedded in 20 desks, allowing students to gain
hands-on experience in 21st-century chemistry practices involving
computer modeling and analysis, and to simulate real world
