First Kleczka Internship Students
Now in Local Government Offices

The inaugural class of the Congressman Jerry Kleczka Internship
Program at Marquette University is now busy working in political
officesstate of Wisconsin. Under the auspices of the Les Aspin
Center for Government, located in Washington D.C., students
accepted into this program are placed in local
and state government internships while pursuing their studies
in Milwaukee. The program is named after former Congressman
Jerry Kleczka, who generously provided the resources to allow
a new generation of public servants to participate in the
policy making process.
By working in local offices including Congresswoman Gwen
Moore, State Senator Lena Taylor, Mayor Ton Barrett, County
Executive Scott Walker, and Common Council President Willie
Hines, students in this program gain valuable hands-on professional
experience.
"We are pleased to be able to offer an internship program
to students who are interested in studying and participating
in public service in their own communities,” said Assistant
Director for Milwaukee Projects, Kathryn Hein.
Placements in this program are highly sought after. This
year's class includes: Cheri Howard, a senior majoring in
Social Welfare and Justice; Amanda Morales, a junior majoring
in Broadcast Journalism/ Electronic Communication; Sheena
Adams-Williams, a senior majoring in Marketing; Minh-Nguyen,
a Senior majoring in Internal Affairs; Joy Mahaley, a Senior
majoring in Communication; and Justin Flores, a Junior Majoring
in Business.
