Students Arrive at Marquette University
Wednesday
Nearly 1,800 freshmen to begin the school year
with five days of
orientation activities

They're coming! Marquette's brightest and most competitive
freshman class will arrive on campus Wednesday, Aug. 24,
beginning at 10 a.m. Armed with their lava lamps, iPods
and mini-fridges, the newest members of the Marquette community
will move into several of our eight residence halls. The
best photo/video opportunities will be at McCormick Hall,
our largest freshman residence hall, which is located at the
corner of 16th Street and Wisconsin Avenue.
The rest of the Marquette student body returns to campus over
the weekend. Classes begin on Monday, Aug. 29.
Marquette freshmen will participate in New Student Orientation
activities through Sunday, including organized activities
on campus and throughout Milwaukee. Here are a few highlights:
Thursday
Square Dance. Central Mall,
behind the Raynor Memorial Libraries at 1355 Wisconsin Ave.
9:30 p.m.- midnight. The Square Dance has been a popular Marquette
orientation tradition for more than 20 years. More than 1,800
students and staff attend this event.
Saturday
Urban Connection. Marquette
has a strong tradition of service within the community. Saturday,
Aug. 28 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. teams of students, accompanied
by an Orientation student staff member, will engage in various
community service projects throughout Milwaukee. For more

Golden Eagle Picnic/Pep Rally. Westowne Square,
just west of the Alumni Memorial Union at 1442 W. Wisconsin
Ave., 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. New
students will meet members of the Marquette community as well
as members of the Marquette sports teams as they gear up for
Marquette's inaugural year in the Big East Conference.
Sunday
All-university Mass of the Holy Spirit.
The Marquette community is invited to the 125th Mass
of the Holy Spirit at 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 28, in Gesu Church.
All-university Welcome Back Picnic. Westowne
Square, 5-7 p.m. This year marks the 15th annual Welcome Back
Picnic. More than 3,500 people are expected for this event.
