Marquette Theology Faculty Honored

MILWAUKEE- Marquette University announces several honors awarded to members of the University’s Department of Theology.

"These honors demonstrate the excellence of the theology faculty's research and teaching," says John Laurance, S.J., department chair. "Theology is an important academic discipline at Marquette, with all students required to take at least two theology courses."

Michael Andrew Fahey, S.J., professor and Doerr Chair in Catholic Systematic Theology, received an honorary doctorate, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the field of theology, from the University of St. Michael’s College in Toronto, Canada.

William Kurz, S.J., professor, received first prize in the 2005 Catholic Press Book Awards in the “Scripture” category for his book What Does the Bible Say About the End Times? This is the second Catholic Press Award that Fr. Kurz has won in the past three years.

Patrick W. Carey, professor and chair of the William J. Kelly, S.J., chair in Catholic Theology, won the first place 2005 Catholic Press Book Award in the category of “Biography” for his book, Orestes A. Brownson: An American Religious Weathervane.

Irfan Omar, assistant professor, is spending the spring semester of 2006 at the University of Melang in Melang, Indonesia on a Fulbright Fellowship.

Kevin Sullivan, assistant professor, received a Catholic Biblical Fellowship Award for post-doctoral study during the spring semester of 2006.
