Marquette to celebrate Mid-year Commencement Sunday, Dec. 20
Nearly 500 Marquette University graduates will be recognized at the Mid-year Commencement on Sunday, Dec. 20, at the U.S. Cellular Arena, 400 W. Kilbourn Ave.
The program will begin at 9:30 a.m. and will feature a keynote address by Janine P. Geske, distinguished professor of law in Marquette’s Law School, as well as remarks from Marquette President Robert A. Wild, S.J., and featured student speaker Scott Passolt, who is graduating from the College of Business Administration. Graduation events will also include a Baccalaureate Mass at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, at the Church of the Gesu, 1145 W. Wisconsin Ave.
Geske, whose address is titled “Living Your Life in the Moment,” is a former Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice and is the founder and director of the Law School’s Restorative Justice Initiative, working in prisons and the community with victims of crime and offenders. She has received numerous honors and awards for her work, including from the FBI, the Archdiocese of Milwaukee and the Milwaukee Bar Association.
A member of the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society, Passolt will graduate with degrees in accounting and marketing. He has been active on campus, participating in Marquette Radio, Students Taking Active Roles and intramural sports. He was selected by College of Business Administration faculty to participate in xACT, an accounting competition. Off campus, Passolt spent a year volunteering with Big Brothers Big Sisters, studied abroad in London, and has held a variety of internships with Milwaukee companies.
Passolt graduated from Carmel Catholic High School in Mundelein, Ill.
