
The Marquette University campus will go “over the rainbow” when the Marquette Symphonic Band performs selections from The Wizard of Oz, Sunday, April 11, at 2 p.m. in the Varsity Theatre. Other music events include performances by the gospel choir and wind and jazz ensembles. All shows are free and open to the public.

The Gospel Choir’s spring performance, “Choose this Day,” is inspired by the bible verse Joshua 24:15.

The Symphonic Band will perform selections from The Wizard of Oz in addition to works by other prominent composers.

Marquette Liturgical Choir, Church of the Gesu, 1145 W. Wisconsin Ave.
The Liturgical Choir, an ensemble of 50 students, will perform its annual spring concert entitled “For the Sake of Our Children,” which will include scripture readings and a variety of musical styles.

Marquette Wind Ensemble, Varsity Theatre, 1324 W. Wisconsin Ave.
The Wind Ensemble will perform its featured piece “Galactic Empires,” a new work written in homage to great space fiction music such as Star Wars and Battlestar Galactica, during their spring concert.

Marquette Jazz Ensemble, Varsity Theatre, 1324 W. Wisconsin Ave.
The Jazz Ensembles will perform their annual spring concert that will include a variety of jazz works by Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Charles Mingus, Gordon Goodwin and many other jazz legends.

Marquette Chorus, Varsity Theatre, 1324 W. Wisconsin Ave.
The chorus concert will feature the men’s, women’s and chamber choirs, who will sing a range of pieces from sacred selections, spirituals, waltzes and culturally inspired songs from Australia and Africa.

Marquette Orchestra, Varsity Theatre, 1324 W. Wisconsin Ave.
The Marquette Orchestra concert will feature cellist Gita Ladd, who will perform the Haydn Cello Concerto in C Major. She has soloed with the Baltimore Symphony and at the Endless Mountain Summer Music Festival.
