Marquette announces graduate certificate in sports leadership

Credits from program can be applied toward master’s degree

MILWAUKEE – Marquette University today announced that its College of Professional Studies will offer a graduate certificate in sports leadership. The 15-credit, graduate certificate program is designed for professionals who would like to strengthen their leadership skills and advance their career within the $440 billion athletics industry.

“Students will study critical topics within the industry including leadership, sports communication, ethics, sports law, media events, and historical events in sports that help set the context for where the industry is today,” said Robert Deahl, dean of the College of Professional Studies.

To earn the certificate, students must complete five sports leadership courses to earn a total of 15 graduate credits. On average, students complete the program in one to two years; however, the certificate must be completed within three years.

All 15 credits earned may be applied to Marquette's master in leadership studies with a specialization in sports leadership, which the school announced in May. One of only two such programs in the Milwaukee area, Marquette’s sports leadership specialization provides students with a degree that focuses on sports, but also provides general leadership education. The program was developed in consultation with Marquette’s Department of Athletics and will give students a direct link to its Division I sports teams and its affiliation with the Big East.

More information on the graduate certificate in sports leadership, including online registration, is available online.
