Chairman of Joint Chiefs will have a “Conversation with the Country” at Marquette University

Admiral Michael G. Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, will speak at Marquette University Tuesday, April 5.
As part of a series of appearances across the country, Mullen’s “Conversation with the Country” will include opening remarks, followed by a question and answer period. The event will begin at 10 a.m. in the Varsity Theatre, 1324 W. Wisconsin Ave.
Tickets for the event, which is free and open to the public, can be picked up in the Brooks Lounge located on the first floor of the Alumni Memorial Union, 1442 W. Wisconsin. Those unable to come to campus can e-mail or call University Special Events, universityspecialevents@marquette.edu or (414) 288-7431, to request tickets, limited to two per person. Tickets can be picked up at the will call table the day of the event. For security reasons, backpacks and signs will not be allowed in the theatre; a check-in for backpacks will be available under the tent on the west side of the theatre along the walkway. Purses will be checked at the door.Mullen was sworn in as the 17th Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff on Oct. 1, 2007. He is the highest-ranking officer in the U.S. Armed Forces and the President’s principal military advisor, advising the Secretary of Defense, the National Security Council and Homeland Security. Since taking office, his priorities have been: (1) defending vital interests in the Middle East; (2) resettling, revitalizing and reconstituting the Armed Forces; and (3) properly balancing global risk.
A native of Los Angeles, Mullen graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1968. He is a graduate of the Advanced Management Program at the Harvard Business School and earned a master’s degree in operations research from the Naval Postgraduate School.
Mullen has served aboard six ships, serving as commanding officer on three. Ashore he has held leadership positions at the Naval Academy, in the Navy’s Bureau of Personnel and in the Office of the Secretary of Defense. His last operational assignment was as Commander, NATO Joint Force Command Naples/Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Europe.
