Entrepreneurship Week to feature Johnsonville CEO Stayer

Kohler Center for Entrepreneurship hosting series of events on innovation

MILWAUKEE – To celebrate Global Entrepreneurship Week, the Kohler Center for Entrepreneurship in Marquette’s College of Business Administration will host a weeklong series of programs on entrepreneurship and innovation Nov. 13-18. Events include a variety of panel discussions on an array of entrepreneurship topics and a keynote address by Ralph Stayer, chairman, president and CEO of Johnsonville Sausage.

“Entrepreneurship Week events give budding and seasoned entrepreneurs at Marquette and throughout the Milwaukee community the opportunity to gain valuable insight into how to advance their own innovations,” said Tim Keane, director of the Kohler Center and founder and director of the Marquette Golden Angels Network.

All Entrepreneurship Week events are free and open to the public; however, seating is limited and registration is required. A complete schedule of events and registration are available online.

The week will begin Sunday, Nov. 13, with a kick-off to the Hackathon, a weeklong event that unites software developers and designers into teams that are tasked with creating useful and compelling software programs. Participants will be judged on their completion, creativity and scalability, with $10,000 in prizes awarded accordingly.

The Hackathon, which is co-sponsored by Milwaukee-based 94 Labs, will begin at 6 p.m. in the Alumni Memorial Union ballrooms, 1442 W. Wisconsin Ave. The finals will be held Friday, Nov. 18, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., in the Weasler Auditorium, 1506 W. Wisconsin Ave.

Stayer’s keynote address will be held Wednesday, Nov. 16, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Weasler. Prior to the presentation, Keane will lead participants through the Harvard Business School's "Johnsonville Sausage" case study, which focuses on developing leadership to manage growth. The case study will begin at 5 p.m., also in the Weasler.

Media interested in attending any of the Entrepreneurship Week events should contact Christopher Stolarski at (414) 288-1988 or christopher.stolarski@marquette.edu.
