Statement on Marquette alumnus and reporter, James Foley
MILWAUKEE – Marquette University alumnus and freelance journalist, James Foley, Arts ’96, was captured by gunmen on Nov. 22, 2012, while reporting in Syria.
In 2011, Foley was reporting on the growing hostilities in Libya between rebels and the regime of Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi. He was captured and held prisoner by the Libyan government for 45 days before being safely released.
The entire Marquette University community joins with his family and friends to pray for his safety and release. Less than two years ago, after he safely returned from Libya, James Foley expressed in a letter
to the Marquette community the power and strength not only from his own prayer, but the prayers of his family and friends.
Community members and alumni can submit their prayers for Foley at www.marquette.edu/faith
