Marquette a sponsor of Project Ripple Effect

Released: June 16, 2006

MILWAUKEE – Marquette University has joined other community partners in sponsoring Project Ripple Effect, a major new initiative that encourages volunteer involvement in Milwaukee’s nonprofit organizations in order to better the local community. The mission of Project Ripple Effect is to encourage, educate, engage and ultimately spread community good by involving more people and corporations in Milwaukee. In Project Ripple Effect, Marquette sees an opportunity to join community partners in creating a culture of volunteerism and more importantly, in developing leaders who will build an even stronger Milwaukee in the future.

Leadership and service are two essential elements of Marquette's mission. In recent years, the university has won national and local accolades for its role in cultivating a culture of community engagement in students and alumni. U.S. News & World Report cited Marquette as one of the leading universities in America for service learning programs, saying Marquette offers "more than just an academic degree; it means, in the Jesuit tradition, no less than shaping the moral and spiritual character of young men and women." The Princeton Review chose Marquette as one of the nation's 81 "Colleges with a Conscience” in recognition of its high level of community involvement, including the fact that 85 percent of Marquette students participate in community service projects. In 2005, Future Milwaukee, the long-standing leadership development program, chose Marquette's College of Professional Studies as its new home, stating the two organizations share a common vision to serve as the primary source for developing and engaging leaders in the transformation of the greater Milwaukee community.

Other sponsors of Project Ripple Effect include Michael Best & Friedrich, Assurant Health, Bucyrus International, the Argosy Foundation and the Frieda and William Hunt Memorial Trust.  The media sponsors are the Business Journal Serving Greater Milwaukee, Time Warner Cable, and Zizzo Group Advertising and Public Relations.
