Released:1/21/03
Marquette was ranked second in 2002 among Jesuit universities
with National Merit Scholars. Georgetown University had 29 scholars,
followed by 17 at Marquette, 13 at Boston College, and 10 each
at Gonzaga, St. Louis and Xavier universities.
The National Merit Scholarship Program is a privately financed
academic competition for recognition and scholarships that began
in 1955. High school students enter the National Merit Program
by taking the PSAT— a test which serves as an initial screen of
the more than 1 million entrants each year — and by meeting published
entry/participation requirements.
Marquette University guarantees the full $2,000 National Merit
Award to all National Merit Finalists who have registered Marquette
as their first choice college with National Merit Scholarship
Corporation during PSAT registration.
