Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Will I be expected to log on to my computer at the same time as the other students and instructor?

A.  The vast majority of online courses at Marquette do NOT require students to be online at the same time.  There are specific deadlines for assignments and discussions, but as long as you meet the deadlines, you can complete the work when it is convenient for you.

Q. Is this a self-paced course?

A. Most of the online courses at Marquette are not self-paced but instead require all students enrolled in the course to move through the course together, meeting required deadlines and participating in required discussions.

Q. What are the technical requirements?

Q. How much time each week should I be spending on my course work?

A. You can expect to spend three hours/week for each credit. So, a three-credit course would be between 8 – 10 hours.

Q. Can I work ahead?

A. Yes, for the majority of the courses (there are exceptions) you can work ahead, but most students rarely do unless they have a conflict that requires completing work ahead of time. 

Q. Will I be able to access the course on my mobile device?

A. Yes! Many online courses are friendly to mobile devices.

Q. Do online courses count toward my degree?

A. Marquette online courses have the same standing as Marquette face-to-face courses.
