Marquette University's Athletics
Nickname
Survey Results: Conclusions
If Marquette University were to change its athletics nickname
back to Warriors, about one in five respondents agree that
it would appear the university was inconsistent or “wishy-washy” or
was being “bought.” About one in 10 respondents
see the change as a step backwards relative to Marquette’s
current goals of promoting diversity.
- Alumni were less likely than the other three groups to
agree that it would appear as though Marquette University
was inconsistent or wishy-washy (15% alumni vs. 29% students,
44% faculty, 45% staff); that Marquette was
being bought (14% alumni vs. 29% students, 54% faculty, 47%
staff); or that Marquette was taking a step
backwards in regards to diversity (7% alumni vs. 16% students,
40% faculty, 34% staff.)
