Survey Results: Conclusions
All stakeholder groups had significant majorities that
indicated a negative opinion of or a lack of connection with
the Golden Eagles nickname and mascot, with alumni most likely
to not have a favorable connection.
- Only 12% of alumni say they identify with the Marquette
Golden Eagles. 77% do not identify, and the remainder are
either neutral or did not answer.
- 36% of students say they identify with the Marquette Golden
Eagles. An almost equal number (38%) do not identify, and
25% either did not answer or were neutral.
- Among faculty, 44% did not identify with the Golden Eagles,
22% were neutral or did not answer and only 31% did identify.
For staff respondents, 37% did not identify with the Golden
Eagles, 26% were neutral and only 36% said they identified.
- The words most often used to describe the Golden Eagles
nickname are boring (57%), weak (55%) and common (52%).
- The words most commonly used to describe the actual mascot
are cartoonish (61%) and silly (49%)
