Marquette University's Athletics
Nickname
Survey Results: Conclusions
The majority of respondents were aware that at Commencement in May 2004,
Marquette was offered a $2 million donation to consider changing
the athletics nickname back to Warriors. However, three-fourths
of all respondents feel that the issue of changing the athletics
nickname back to the Warriors has nothing to do with money.
- 80% were aware (73% of alumni, 90% of students, 98% of
faculty and 98% of staff) of the $2 million
donation offer.
- Alumni (81%) and students (61%) are significantly more
likely than faculty (48%) and staff (51%)
to feel that the prospect of changing Marquette’s athletic
nickname back to Warriors has nothing to do with money.
- 37% of faculty, 28% of staff, and 18% of
students, compared to only 8% of alumni, think it is mostly
about money.
