CIES annually recruits and sends nearly 800 U.S. faculty and professionals to 140 countries on its traditional program and brings 800 foreign faculty and professionals to the U.S. The organization has also recently launched two new pilot Fulbright programs:

• the New Century Scholars Program, which brings together 30 leading academics and professionals from around the world under the Fulbright banner to examine a major transnational theme and work collaboratively on an issue of global significance. The topic for 2004 is “Toward Equality: The Global Empowerment of Women,” and
• the Senior Specialists Program, which offers short-term grants (two to six weeks) to go abroad to conduct teacher training, develop or assess curricula or educational materials, and so forth.

 In addition, CIES administers:

• the Fulbright Distinguished Chairs Program, which offers awards for distinguished U.S. faculty and professionals to lecture or do research in 11 European countries, Russia and Canada;
• the Fulbright International Educational Administrators Seminar Program, which sends U.S. administrators to Germany, Japan and Korea for two- to three-week summer seminars, and brings administrators from Japan and Korea to the U.S. for similar seminars; and
• the Fulbright German Studies Seminar, which sends U.S. academics and professionals to Germany to participate in a three-week summer seminar on current German society and culture

Each spring, the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs hosts a Fulbright Brown Bag lunch.  During these sessions, a panel of 3-4 Marquette Fulbright alumni share their Fulbright experiences from application to award completion and answer questions from those in attendance.
