The “Did You Know?” board, located in the Multicultural Center, offers an opportunity to share information about various cultural heritage celebrations and other social identity recognitions throughout the year.

Golden Roses Recognition Ceremony
A ceremony recognizing Marquette Women (employees and students) who positively contribute to the experiences of underrepresented students on Marquette’s campus.
Multicultural Affairs Leadership Council (MALC)
The purpose of MALC is to offer a forum where student leaders from multicultural organizations can connect with each other and develop the skills to advocate and address issues facing their respective communities at Marquette. At monthly meetings, students share and discuss their MU experiences as individuals and as leaders of organizations, participate in presentations that build personal and organizational leadership skills, and are exposed to resources and opportunities at Marquette and in the greater Milwaukee community.
Civil Rights Pilgrimage
The Civil Rights Pilgrimage is an immersion trip offering student the opportunity to become inter-culturally competent and feel empowered to be agents of social change on Marquette’s Campus and in their lives beyond college. On the trip, students will be challenged and supported to recognize connections between the Civil Rights movement and contemporary social issues and to be empowered to raise awareness and take actions towards creating change in our society.
Social Justice in Action Conference (Coming Soon)
A one-day leadership conference designed to help educate participants about the concepts of social justice and leadership through exploring personal social identifies, identities of others and issues of oppression and privilege. Student are encouraged to develop networks and skills to be allies and create plans for how to be active agents for change on campus and in the Milwaukee communities.
Speak Out- Intergroup Dialogues (Coming Soon)
A dialogue series where students discuss identity development, power and privilege, communication and conflict, and being an ally for fellow students. Each dialogue group focuses on a specific social identity.
Safe Space Trainings (Coming Soon)
Trainings offered to members of the Marquette community, namely students, student organizations, residence halls staff, and student leaders. Trainings will focus on creating a safe space for students who identify as LGBTQ using an institutional philosophy of the statement on human dignity, and a theoretical framework for developing aspiring allies (Edwards, 2006).
SUSTAIN: Excellence
SUSTAIN: Excellence (Supporting Unity & Success To Achieve In Numbers) is a program which includes a variety of activities and services to support the success of students from underrepresented racial, ethnic or religious communities, students in the LGBTQ and Ally community, and first-generation students. SUSTAIN: Excellence focuses on promoting unity, connecting students to campus resources, and enhancing leadership and academic success. The different component of SUSTAIN:Excellence includes:
Lavender Graduation (Coming Soon)
This event celebrates the academic achievement of graduating Marquette students who are active in the LGBTQ Community through an end of the year graduation ceremony. Speakers include graduating students, faculty mentors, and administrators who support students in their identity development.
“Building Bridges” Faculty/Student Reception
The event will offer an opportunity for faculty, members of the Ethnic Alumni Association, and students to connect and establish a stronger social network on campus. A panel consisting of faculty/staff, and alumni share tips and stories about how they persisted in their undergraduate and professional careers.
Career Exploration Series
A series dedicated to raising awareness about different career opportunities, enhancing professional development skills and forming networks for internship or various career opportunities.
McNair Colloquia
This collaboration with McNairs Scholars Program features monthly presentations from McNair students on their research projects completed to date under the mentorship of Marquette faculty members. Students present their research methods, processes, and findings to Marquette students, faculty members, and students.
Day of Silence
This recognition event started Spring 2011 to support students of the LGBTQ community and to raise awareness to the silence that disables many LGBTQ students nationwide. Students are encouraged to remain in silent reflection on the Day of Silence followed by a “break the silence” event on campus.
Soup with Substance
This collaborative programming venture involves weekly Wednesday discussions-either in panel format or presenter format-that focus on issues pertaining to social justice, the consciousness of human dignity, and relevant historical events that shape the understanding a diverse pluralistic society.
MLK Days of Engagement
This initiative organized in collaboration with the Center for Community Service and Multicultural Affairs is aimed at connecting students to the ideals of MLK, Jr. through passive programming, active community service, and a discussion and reflection of how we connect to our greater community. MLK Days of Engagement consists of community service in the MPS system, a post-service reflection, an intentional mass at Joan of Arc Chapel, a spoken-word workshop, and an open-mic night. Campus partners include: the Center for Community Service, City Year Milwaukee, and Campus Activities (Late Night Marquette).
Dinner for Change
Dinner for Change is a collaborative venture between Multicultural Affairs and the Division of Student Affairs Diversity Committee that provides advocacy to all students through a facilitated dialogue over dinner regarding the campus climate for underrepresented student populations.
Inclusivity Pledge (Coming Soon)
Bias Incident Reporting Protocol (Coming Soon)
This initiative seeks to provide members of the Marquette Community with an online resource to report bias incidents and acts of intolerance. This reporting tool allows members of the Marquette community to bring awareness of campus bias incidents to Marquette administrators with the goal of increasing and promoting a sense of safety for members of the Marquette Community. Campus partners include: Public Safety, the Dean of Students office, the Counseling Center, and offices affiliated with the DSA Diversity Committee.
