Get Involved

There are several opportunities for you to become involved in service on a short-term basis. These opportunities can be a good introduction to service, are an excellent way to learn more about the needs of our community, and might be easier to fit into your busy schedule than a long-term commitment. Check out the following projects offered through the Center:

HIV/AIDS Service Immersion
The goal of this weekend immersion is to further students understanding of the pandemic of HIV/ AIDS and how it is currently effecting Milwaukee. We will explore the issues around HIV/AIDS such as education, discrimination, health care, and the social implications it brings. We will enter into discussions and participate in service with individuals both infected and affected by the virus. We will reflect on our individual and collective roles in helping to fight the spread of this virus. This experience is open to all students at Marquette University. Information and application materials are forthcoming.

Freshmen Service Project
Join your classmates for this annual weekend service immersion experience. Through service activities and discussions, these overnight projects examine poverty and the people and agencies combating it in Milwaukee.

Hunger Clean Up, April 18, 2009
Hunger Clean Up (HCU), is our largest one-day community service project. Join students, staff, and faculty to make a difference in the Milwaukee community. Over 1,500 volunteers come together each spring to work at sites including homeless shelters, elementary schools, community organizations and more. In addition, students raise money to support the work of community agencies in the greater Milwaukee area.

Senior (Citizens) Prom, March 29, 2009
This spring event provides an opportunity to spend time socializing and dancing with seniors from the surrounding neighborhood. The Senior Prom takes place in the AMU Ballrooms.

Urban Connection
This one-day service project takes place during New Student Orientation and introduces first-year students to the sites and people of Milwaukee through a variety of service activities.
