Resources for Parents
The postsecondary experience is not only unique for students with disabilities, but affects parents as well. Lots of things change when going from high school to college and parents often have many questions about the experiences that lie ahead for their sons or daughters. Each resource section below details some facet of this transition and may answer many of the questions you have.
- For information on how Marquette provides services to students with disabilities, visit the Office of Disability Services's publication, "Accessibility at Marquette University," located in the Policies and Procedures section of this web site.
- Go to the Organization and Information Resources page which includes links to a very helpful Office of Civil Rights publication on high school to college transition, along with a link to a humorous, but informative piece from the University of Montana, "Toto, I Have a Feeling We're Not in High School Anymore."
- If your son or daughter used assistive technology in high school, the Technology Resources page lists the technology resourcess available at Marquette along with links to other sites with free downloadable programs or information on their technology products that may be useful for college level work.
- The Office of Disability Services offers "100 Things Every College Student With a Disability Ought to Know" to accepted students with disabilities. If you have a son or daughter coming to Marquette, and haven't yet received a copy, let us know.
