Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Who is eligible to receive tutoring?
A: Any Marquette University student enrolled for credit.
Q: How much does tutoring cost?
A: Nothing. Tutoring is FREE.
Q: How do I sign up for tutoring?
A: Come to AMU 317 and complete a Tutor Request Form. If a group is
available, we will let you know on the spot, or contact you as soon as
possible with the tutorial day and time.
Q: Can I request more than one tutor?
A: Yes.
Q: Will I be tutored in a group?
A: Yes, you will be tutored in a group of up to six students. If you desire
individual tutoring, we can assist you in identifying a private tutor, but all
arrangements will be made directly with the tutor and tutee. We DO NOT
provide individual tutoring.
Q: Where do tutorial sessions meet?
A: On the Third Floor of the AMU. Once you've been assigned to a group, check the whiteboard posted outside of AMU 317 for the location of your tutorial group.
Q: How often will my tutorial group meet?
A: Tutorial groups meet one hour per week.
Q: Do I need to prepare before my tutorial session?
A: Yes! The tutors expect you will come with questions about the material
you have covered in class and/or your studying. If you don't prepare,
you won't benefit from the session.
Q: What if I need more than one hour of tutoring per week?
A: We offer drop-in tutoring for Chemistry and Physics a few hours during
the week. Check with individual departments for any tutoring they may
offer as well. We can also assist you in identifying a private tutor.
Q: What happens if I miss a session?
A: If you must miss a session, please contact the main office 24 hours in
advance at (414) 288-3270. If you miss two sessions without notifying
our office, you will be dropped from your group to make space for
another student.
Q: What if I'm dropped from tutoring but I still really need it?
A: Depending on the circumstances you may be readmitted to a tutorial
group. If all groups are full, you will be put on a waiting list and
contacted if another group should open.
Q: Who are the tutors?
A: Mainly Marquette University undergraduates who have received an AB or
better (or tested out) in the course they are tutoring. Marquette
University graduate students occasionally tutor as well.
Q: Are there any other services I could utilize?
A: Yes! Our professional staff can meet with you individually or will work
with you to schedule a group meeting to assist with time management
or other study skills. Call us at (414) 288-3270 to set up an
appointment.
