While some Explore Marquette events require tickets, many are free and open to families who wish to come and go as they choose throughout the weekend. The Marquette Parent Program has partnered with the Milwaukee Brewers and Milwaukee Food & City Tours to offer you Explore Milwaukee events. Please note that all Explore Milwaukee events require tickets and there are no refunds issued for Explore Milwaukee events. Note: a ticket is required for each member of your family, including your Marquette student. Click HERE to register for "Explore Milwaukee" events.

OWN YOUR OWN:
Check out some of the places and hotspots in Milwaukee on your own, and treat your student to some time off campus. On Your Own events include family-friendly activities as well as events for adults (21+).

When you arrive on campus, stop by the Family Weekend information tables to pick up your event tickets (if applicable), your copy of the 2015-16 Marquette Parent Calendar, and a special gift for parents while supplies last. Family Weekend information tables will be open on Friday, Oct 2 from 1 - 7 p.m. and Saturday, Oct 3 from 8 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. in the 2nd floor lobby of the Alumni Memorial Union.

Al McGuire Center Tours

3 p.m. - 4 p.m., Friday, Oct. 2
2 p.m. - 3 p.m., Saturday, Oct 3

Located in the heart of campus, this practice and play facility features a 4,000-seat arena in which women's basketball and women's volleyball compete and includes a full-sized practice gym. Stop by "The Al" to explore the storied history of Marquette athletics and pick up schedules and ticket information for all 14 of the university's Division I sports teams. Meet your tour guide at the main entrance of the Al McGuire Center, 770 N. 12th Street.

 

Miles for Meals 5K Fun Run/Walk

4:30 p.m. - 6 p.m., Friday, Oct. 2
Westowne Mall
Lace up your running or walking shoes and participate in a fun event for a good cause! Miles for Meals is a fun run that serves as the primary fundraiser for the Midnight Run Program, a student intiative which has served the needs of the hungry and homeless near Marquette since 1988. The course follows the perimeter of campus known as the "Marquette Mile". $15 minimum donation per person includes registration in fun run and Miles for Meals t-shirt. Click here to register.

Open Bowling

Union Sports Annex
Strike up some family-friendly competition! Food and beverages are available for purchase from the WOW Café. Siblings under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Bowling is a popular Family Weekend activity, and will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Pay $2.75 per person per game, and $1.50 for shoe rental at the bowling service counter.

 

Zumba Class

9 a.m. - 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 3
Helfaer Recreation Center
Check out one of the most popular fitness activities at Marquette! Zumba combines aerobics and a variety of Latin dances and is a great way to start your morning. All experience levels are welcome. Complimentary lockers and use of showers is available for all participants.

 

Pumpkin and Apple Picking

9:30 a.m. - Noon, Saturday, Oct. 3
Bus leaves from 16th and Wisconsin Ave.
Pick-your-own apples and pumpkins at this local family-owned and operated fruit farm in Mequon, WI. Visit www.barthelfruitfarm.com for prices and apple varieties that will be available for pick-your-own. Bus leaves at 9:30 a.m. and returns to campus by noon. $3 per person. Protect you and your family this flu season! Flu shots available for all family members for $25 each, payable in person. Anyone who receives a flu shot will be entered into a raffle for local prizes.

 

Family Photos

St. Joan of Arc Chapel
Stop by the picturesque chapel in the heart of campus to pose for a keepsake photo with your family. Digital copies will be sent to families via email by the end of October. This is perfect timing for your holiday photos!

Haggerty Museum of Art Open Galleries

Haggerty Museum of Art
Four exhibitions will be on display-Marc Chagall Biblical Narratives in Print (105 prints based on the Old Testament), Adi Nes Biblical Stories (large-scale photographs recreating Biblical characters), What is Hispanic? (paintings and prints by Hispanic artists from the permanent collection), Giuseppe Mazzone Geometry of Faith (drawings and 3D printed model of a 17th century Parisian church). Theatre Performances: Loose Lips Sink Ships

Loose Lips Sink Ships pays tribute to the Greatest Generation, including all the riveting Rosies who transformed America into the Arsenal of Democracy. Set in Sturgeon Bay, Wis., during World War II, this toe-tapping musical centers on the strong-spirited women who fill the shoes of their brothers, friends and fiancés and do their part to win the war at home. Join us as we sign and dance our way to victory with this engaging musical! It's fun for the whole family. Chorus Concert

Varsity Theatre
The Marquette University Chorus is the longest standing choral organization on campus. The chorus is comprised of undergraduate and graduate students. The four choirs in the program are the MU Chorus, Women’s Choir, Men’s Choir, and Chamber Choir. This concert blends a wide variety of contemporary, traditional, and popular selections. Come and enjoy an hour of excellent choral music.

 

Theatre: Dinner and a Show

Acapella Invitational: Acatoberfest

7:30 p.m. - 9 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 3
Varsity Theatre
A showcase performance featuring Marquette's three talented acapella groups as well as groups from other universities across the Midwest. The Naturals, Gold 'n Blues and Meladies will take the stage in a vocal concert unlike anything you have ever seen before. This is a show you won't want to miss! $5 for adults, free for students with MUID and children under 10. Seating at this event is first-come, first-served for family weekend guests with tickets, children under 10 (no ticket required) and students (with MUIDs).  Families can sit together by choosing seats together, large groups are encouraged to arrive early for best seating. Annual Family Weekend Band Concert

11 a.m. - Noon, Sunday, Oct. 4
Varsity Theatre
The Marquette Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band join forces for a concert of fun and popular music. This concert is presented at a special early time to allow family members to attend before traveling home from the weekend. Don’t miss this chance to hear our best wind and percussion players and a really fun hour-long concert!

 

Greek Community Dessert Reception
and House Tours

Meet student leaders and staff of the Marquette Greek Community and get a sneak peak into Greek Life at MU - House Tours begin at the conclusion of the reception. All family members welcome!

Late Night Marquette: Magician Dennis Watkins

Family Brunch

Enjoy a casual Sunday brunch buffet on campus with your family, provided by Sodexo dining services.

City Tours

Explore Milwaukee at your own pace with Milwaukee Food & City Tours and their Hop On / Hop Off Sightseeing and Shopping Bus. You can ride the bus for a fully-narrated 60-minute sightseeing loop or you can use it all day to visit Milwaukee's most popular attractions including the Milwaukee Art Museum, Brady Street, Harley Davidson Museum, Great Lakes Distillery, Walker's Point and the Milwaukee Public Market. The bus will depart promptly on the hour from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. from the Marquette campus.
