Indispensable Skills for the Social Sector

In his monograph Good to Great and the Social Sectors, Jim Collins explains that there are specific skills that drive the resource engines of social sector organizations. Charitable donations and private grants require excellent fundraising and personal relationships. Revenue-generating organizations require a strong business acumen. Government funding requires political skill and maintaining public support.

It's important to be familiar with these skills. If you work for a social sector organization, you will likely be asked to complete tasks that require some of these skills. If you are able to master one or more of these skills, you should always be able to find employment.
