Physician Assistant Students awarded National Health Service Corps Scholarships!
Marquette 1st year physician assistant (PA) students, Amber Ihander and Rebecca Mullally were recently awarded 2011 National Health Service Corps (NHSC) scholarships. The NHSC scholarship provides the students with full tuition, fees, and a living stipend for each year of PA school in exchange for working in an under-served primary care area upon graduation. This year there were more than 3000 qualified applicants with approximately 250 total awards nationwide.
The National Health Service Corps, part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is a network of primary care clinicians that provide care to Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSA) in the United States. It allows persons living in these areas access to qualified medical, dental, and health care providers.
The NHSC scholarship program pays tuition, fees and a stipend to students enrolled in medical, dental, nurse practitioner, nurse midwife or PA training programs. It is available for up to four years with a minimum of two years. Upon graduation scholars serve in an HPSA for the number of years the scholarship was received.
This is the second year in a row that 2 Marquette PA students have been awarded the scholarship.
