Membership in the Physics Club is open to any and all students
who are interested in physics. The Physics Club organizes
on-campus activities, such as tutoring services, competitions,
and guest-speaker presentations, as well as trips to research
laboratories, museums, other campuses, and observatories.
The Physics Club is located in the William Wehr Physics Building,
Room 370, and can be reached at 288-5122.

Joining the Society of Physics Students is as simple as coming
to the meetings. To find out when meetings are, email Kevin
Weiler and ask to be placed on the email list for SPS. Whenever
you send a message concerning SPS place "Physics Club"
in the subject of your email.

The Physics Club of Marquette Constitution
Preamble
Recognizing the desire of Marquette
University physics students to have an organization that affords
them the opportunities of discussing ideas related to physics
and participating in scientific activities, we have formed the
Physic Club of Marquette.
Article I: Name
The name of this organization shall
be The Physics Club of Marquette, hereafter referred to as the
Organization.
Article II: Purpose
The purposes of this organization are
1) to provide a forum for the discussion of pertinent facts and
discoveries in all branches of physics and related disciplines,
2) to afford students the opportunity to engage in activities
related to physics, and 3) to generate public interest in the
physical sciences.
Article III: Membership
Section 1: Regular membership shall
be open to any full time Marquette University undergraduate student
with an interest in physics.
Section 2: Associate membership shall
be open to any part time student, graduate student, professional
student, faculty member, staff member, or administrator at Marquette
University with an interest in physics.
Section 3: Non-discrimination Clause.
Consistent with all applicable federal and state laws and University
policies, this organization and its subordinate bodies and officers
shall not discriminate on the basis of race, color, age, sexual
orientation, religion, veteran's status, sex, national origin,
or disability in its selection of members, educational programs,
or activities.
Section 4: Dues will be a one time fee
of five dollars per member. Should more funds be required, a quorum
may raise the amount or frequency.
Section 5: Duties of Officers.
A. The President is responsible for conducting organization
business, and leading general meetings.
B. The Vice-President is responsible for the SPS
website, the E-mail list, and aiding the President.
C. The Secretary/Treasurer is responsible for recording
minutes, keeping documents and managing funds.
D. Checks must be co-signed by the Treasurer and
by either the President or Vice-President.
Article V: Removal of Officers
Section 1: Officers failing to fulfill
the given responsibilities and duties may be removed by the regular
members of the organization.
Section 2: The removal of an officer
requires a 2/3 vote of a quorum following the notification of
the officer in question. Such notification shall be provided in
writing no less than seven working days prior to the vote.
Article VI: Replacement of Officers
Section 1: In the case where the presidential
office is vacant, the vice-president will immediately fill the
position.
Section 2: All other offices should
be filled through appointment or election.
Article VII: Meetings
Section 1: A regularly scheduled general meeting
shall be held at least every second week, or every week when suitable.
The officers may call additional meetings when the need arises.
Section 2: A quorum shall consist of 40% of the regular
members.
Section 3: A quorum shall be present in order for
any official business to be conducted. Official business shall
include elections of officers, setting of dues and any other major
decisions affecting the organization.
Section 4: Parliamentary Authority at all meetings
will be Robert's Rules of Order.
Article VIII: Affiliation
Section 1: This organization shall be affiliated
with the Society of Physics Students and shall abide by its constitution
and by-laws and this constitution and/or the rules, regulations,
or policies of Marquette University . In instances of conflict,
this constitution and/or rules, regulations or policies of Marquette
University shall take precedence over the constitution or by-laws
of the Society of Physics Students.
Article IX: Amendments
Section 1: All amendments to this constitution
require notice of one week prior to being discussed and voted
upon.
Section 2: All amendments require a
2/3 vote of a quorum for adoption.
Section 3: Amendments become effective
only after approval by both the Office of Student Development
and the Student Senate of the Marquette University Student Government
(MUSG).
