The physics club of Marquette began in 1956 as the Physics Club of Milwaukee. The Physics Club of Milwaukee was a very active organization which later became affiliated with the American Institute of Physics (AIP) in 1963. In the mid 1970's, the club was renamed the Physics Club of Marquette.

About ten years ago, the club was struggling with the loss of the doctoral physics program, and the temporary loss of the major. In 2002, there were only four members of the physics club.

Changes in the physics department allowed for the growth of this struggling club. A trebuchet was built, then two telescopes were donated by a local family. The club became active in elementary school classrooms by giving demonstrations and teaching young students the basics of physics. The club has now grown in number and in quality, and has won the SPS outstanding chapter award in both 2005 and 2006. The physics club of Marquette is looking forward to many future years of learning, growing, and having fun with the science of physics.
