Athletic Director announcement
Dec. 5, 2011
Dear Marquette Students:
I am pleased to inform you that Larry Williams has been appointed Vice President and Director of Athletics, effective January 2, 2012. The full news release on his appointment can be found here http://www.marquette.edu/omc/newscenter/12-05-2011-williams.php
Currently the Athletic Director at the University of Portland, Larry brings outstanding experience to our university community and has demonstrated his commitment to developing students to become leaders in service to others. While at Portland, he was able to combine athletic success with academic achievements. Under his leadership, Portland achieved a national championship in women's soccer and the university's first-ever national ranking for men's basketball, baseball and tennis and just as importantly, student-athletes improved their academic performance and notched important accomplishments in the classroom and in their academic disciplines. Larry's personal and professional success is rooted in principles and values familiar to you as Marquette students: excellence, faith, leadership, and service.
More than 100 people, including representatives of Marquette University Student Government and the Student Athlete Advisory Council, gave input into the key characteristics and qualifications of the new Athletic Director. I want to thank all of those who contributed to the work of the Search Committee, which included Search Committee Chair Allie McGuire, Trustee Doc Rivers, Dean of Nursing Margaret Callahan and Professor of Law Matt Mitten. Please join me in welcoming our new Athletic Director to Marquette. As the semester draws to a close, I wish you every success in your upcoming final exams.
Scott R. Pilarz, S.J.
