Course List: Mathematical Reasoning
The following courses have been approved for inclusion in the university core of common studies. Unless noted as a dual application course, each course satisfies a three-credit-hour requirement in the knowledge area under which it is listed.
New courses are approved for the core of common studies each semester. Decisions about core credit for transfer courses, Advanced Placement courses, International Baccalaureate and CLEP are made by college designees in consultation with the director of the core of common studies.
Choose 3 credit hours from the following list:
- COSC 50 Introduction to Computer Science
Prereq: Two years of college preparatory mathematics - MATH 25 The Nature of Mathematics Prereq: Two years of college preparatory mathematics.
- MATH 30 Problem Solving and Reasoning for Teachers
No prereq. - MATH 60 Modern Elementary Statistics
Prereq: Two years of college preparatory mathematics or MATH 010 Note: May not be taken for credit by students who have received credit for another probability or statistics course. - MATH 70 Finite Mathematics
Prereq: Three years of college preparatory mathematics or MATH 020. - MATH 71 Elements of Calculus 1
Prereq: Three years of college preparatory mathematics or MATH 020. - MATH 73 Calculus for the Biological Sciences
Prereq: Three years of college preparatory mathematics or MATH 020. - MATH 80 Calculus 1
Prereq: MATH 021 or three to four years of college preparatory Mathematics including topics listed in description of MATH 021. - MATH 81 Calculus 2
Prereq: MATH 080 - PRST 60 Research and Statistical Methods
Prereq: Enrolled in Professional Studies; MATH 020 recommended. - PSYC 60 Psychological Measurements and Statistics
Prereq: MATH 020 or equivalent and PSYC 001 or equivalent; Either 3 years of high school mathematics or MATH 020 or its equivalent. - SOCI 60 Social Statistics
Prereq: SOCI Major and MATH 010 or equivalent; SOWJ Major and MATH 010 or equivalent; CRLS Major and MATH 010 or equivalent; or MATH 010 or equivalent and consent of instructor. Note: Three years of high school preparatory mathematics is equivalent to MATH 010.
