The following courses have been approved for inclusion in the university core of common studies. Unless noted as a dual application course, each course satisfies a three-credit-hour requirement in the knowledge area under which it is listed.
New courses are approved for the core of common studies each semester. Decisions about core credit for transfer courses, Advanced Placement courses, International Baccalaureate and CLEP are made by college designees in consultation with the director of the core of common studies.

- BIOL 01 General Biology 1
- BIOL 05 Biology for Non-Science Majors
- BIOL 06 Plants, Pathogens, and People
- BISC 10 Contemporary Issues in Nutrition
- BISC 15 Principles of Human Anatomy and Physiology
- CHEM 01 General Chemistry 1
- CHEM 02 General Chemistry 2
Prereq: CHEM 001 - PHYS 01 General Physics 1
Prereq: High school algebra, geometry and trigonometry or equivalent. - PHYS 02 General Physics 2
Prereq: PHYS 001 - PHYS 03 General Physics with Introductory Calculus 1
Prereq: MATH 080 must have been taken previously or may be taken concurrently. - PHYS 04 General Physics with Introductory Calculus 2
Prereq: MATH 080 and PHYS 003. Students may either take MATH 081 concurrently or must have taken MATH 081 previously. - PHYS 07 Survey of Meteorology
- PHYS 08 Astronomy and Space Physics
Note: The 4 sem. hrs. option is only for Broad Field Science majors, for whom it is required. - PHYS 09 Earth and Environmental Physics
Note: The 4 sem. hrs. option is only for Broad Field Science majors and for physics teaching majors and minors, for whom it is required. - PHYS 13 Classical and Modern Physics with Calculus 1
Prerequisite: MATH 080 which may be taken concurrently; A command of high school algebra, geometry, trigonometry is assumed. Requires the use of introductory calculus. Students cannot receive credit for both PHYS 003 and PHYS 013. - PHYS 14 Classical and Modern Physics with Calculus 2
Prerequisite: MATH 080 and MATH 081 and PHYS 013 which may be taken concurrently; Students cannot receive credit for both PHYS 004 and PHYS 014. - PRST 18 Aspects of Modern Science
Prereq: Enrolled in Professional Studies.
