Overview

The Center for Psychological Services (CPS) of Marquette University's Department of Psychology is dedicated to providing affordable and effective treatment to the general Marquette community, including its Milwaukee neighborhood. Like the University as a whole, CPS is dedicated to the principle of equal opportunity. CPS provides treatment regardless of race, sex, age, marital status, religion, veteran's status, sexual orientation, or national origin.

CPS is staffed by Clinical psychology faculty and by graduate students, who are closely supervised by faculty. All students are expected to see patients through the Center for Psychological Services, under the supervision of the clinical faculty.

Services Available at CPC

Evaluations and Treatment at CPS

CPS conducts evaluations of psychological and educational problems and offers state-of-the-art treatment for many psychological problems, including depression, anxiety, autism, ADHD, relationship problems, and academic difficulties. CPS provides help to children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families.

When someone calls CPS, the intake worker asks for some basic information, such as age, marital status, phone number, and a brief description of the presenting problem. At the intake interview, detailed information about the problem or concern is obtained. If CPS cannot provide appropriate service, referral to another resource is made. If called for, a psychological evaluation might be recommended and conducted. More typically, clients are scheduled for psychotherapy appointments. The initial focus of therapy is establishing a treatment plan, that is, the goals and procedures of therapy.

The fee for services is established during this visit. Fees are determined by ability to pay.

Issues of Privacy

Anything discussed with the clinician is private information that is protected by state law. For CPS to disclose any information requires a signed release. Issues related to confidentiality are discussed at the first meeting.
