Katie Frost

Katie Frost (maiden name Kern) graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a B.A. in Psychology and a minor in Women’s Studies. At Madison, she worked as a research assistant for Dr. Lyn Abramson on a longitudinal study investigating the life experiences of individuals with Bipolar Disorder.

When Katie began her graduate career in the Marquette University clinical psychology department, she had interests both in social and clinical psychology with a particular desire to research body image and self-esteem issues in young adult women. She works with Dr. Stephen Franzoi.

Katie’s Master’s thesis (degree received May, 2010) “Restructuring the Body Esteem Scale,” and dissertation, “The Body Esteem Scale: Revised for the Next Quarter Century” examine the current factor structure of the Body Esteem Scale, a research tool used to measure men’s and women’s evaluations of their physical selves. She developed a plan for revision and validation of this scale. Katie is also involved in other ongoing projects in the Body Esteem Lab exploring the relationships between body image distortions, self-esteem and body esteem as well as investigating gender differences in social comparison and perfection beliefs.

Katie also enjoyed her experience teaching undergraduate Statistics last year. She is currently the instructor for Social Psychology. Katie is also competing her therapy practicum at the Center for Behavioral Medicine.
