Dr. Wierzbicki's primary interests lie in the area of depression and the empirical examination of clinical methods. He has published research on the cognitive-behavioral model of depression, examining the influences on, correlates of, and treatment of depression. Although most of his research has examined depression in adults, Dr. Wierzbicki has also applied the cognitive-behavioral model of depression to children. His book, "Issues in Clinical Psychology: Subjective Versus Objective Approaches," examined the way in which the empirical evaluation of clinical techniques and assumptions influenced the development of clinical psychology. His textbook, "Introduction to Clinical Psychology," presents an overview of the field of clinical psychology from the perspective of the scientist-practitioner training model. Dr. Wierzbicki has also published research in several other areas of clinical psychology, including the detection of faking on the MCMI, the occurrence of psychopathology in adoptees, and the variables that predict dropping out of psychotherapy.

Dr. Wierzbicki is married and has two children. He is involved with his children's school and extracurricular activities and enjoys several hobbies, including playing the piano, following the Brewers, and reading. Dr. Wierzbicki is a Chess Master, with numerous titles and tournament victories under his belt, including a U.S. Junior Open Co-championship and 10 state titles. Although he has cut down on over-the-board tournaments, he continues to compete in correspondence chess events. Most recently, he qualified to participate in the 1998 United States Correspondence Chess Championship.
