PUBLIC SAFETY ALERT – May 2, 2014

The Department of Public Safety was informed that at approximately 2:36 a.m., three robberies were carried out by two suspects near 18th Street and Wisconsin Avenue.

Suspect 1 (description below) approached a Marquette student near 18th Street and Wisconsin Avenue and demanded property. The victim turned over property and was not injured.

Suspect 1 then approached a second Marquette student near 18th Street and Wisconsin Avenue and demanded property. The victim turned over property and was not injured.

Simultaneously, a second suspect (now in custody) approached a student near the front of Parking Structure 3 (18th Street and Wisconsin Avenue), displayed a handgun and demanded property. A brief struggle ensued and the suspect shot the student in the hand. At that time, Suspect 1 returned the second victim's property and the two suspects fled southbound on 18th Street.

DPS responded to the scene immediately and was able to take Suspect 2 into custody. The Milwaukee Police Department was also on the scene. Suspect 2's weapon was recovered and the area was thoroughly searched for additional weapons, with negative results. The victim was transferred to a local hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
