Instruction Mode "Where" classes are offered; the format in which a course is taught / delivered; each section of a course has a single instruction mode.   Code Instruction Mode Description CB Classroom-based Course A course with regularly-scheduled, face-to-face group class meetings held throughout the term, either on-campus and/or off-campus. A minor portion (up to 29%) of the course may be web-based to enhance what is essentially a face-to-face classroom-based course. CF Classroom-based / Field-based Course A course that combines aspects of both classroom-based and field experience into one course. CL Classroom-based / Lab Course A course that combines aspects of both classroom-based and laboratory into one course. FL Field-based Course A supervised practical experience in a major field of study that provides opportunities to apply knowledge gained in academic settings. HY Hybrid Course A course that blends face-to-face class meetings and online delivery of course content and discussions; a substantial portion (30% to 79%) of the course is delivered online. IS Individualized Study Course A course where one-on-one instruction or a research experience is provided by an instructor to an individual student outside of the classroom. LB Laboratory Course A course that meets in a defined physical setting (i.e. laboratory) for the purpose of the application of methods and principles of a discipline; the primary emphasis of such courses is often "learning by doing." Laboratory classes may be stand-alone (for credit), but are typically a non-credit component of the traditional classroom-based section.  As such, lab sections generally contain fewer students than the course to which they are linked. OL Online Course A course where online delivery of course content and discussions predominates and where 80% to 100% of the course is delivered online.   Last updated 8/14/2008.
