Registering for Independent Study Classes Independent Study classes provide you with the opportunity to study and investigate areas of interest not available through normal class offerings. To register for an Independent Study class, you must complete an Approval for Independent Study form, available from your college office, the Office of the Registrar, or in downloadable PDF format via the links below. You must submit the completed form with the necessary signatures to college or dean's office of the college offering the course. The college office will approve the course and forward the form to the Office of the Registrar.  The Office of the Registrar will register you for Independent Study classes upon receipt of the completed approval form. Consult with your instructor regarding the specific title, number of units, term, and session of the class prior to completing the Approval Form and submitting it for signatures. If using the downloadable PDF form, be sure to enter the data electronically before printing.
