Research and Innovation

The Office of Research and Innovation works to advance the university’s strategic initiatives around research and innovation and to provide an infrastructure that supports idea generation, entrepreneurship, and commercialization across campus. The office oversees a variety of functional areas, including research compliance and sponsored programs, and several key initiatives, such as Marquette's NSF-funded ADVANCE initiative, The Explorer Challenge, the 707 Hub powered by Kohler Center for Entrepreneurship and Social Innovation Initiative, the Institute for Women's Leadership, the Athletic and Human Performance Research Center.

Call for Participants: Marquette University’s Office of Research and Innovation Hosts  

The Summer Research Institute: “Summer Research Boot Camp.”  

The purpose of the Summer Research Institute’s “Summer Research Boot Camp” is to help scholars create a plan that will allow them to balance research with other summer professional and personal responsibilities.  

Aim: The aim of this week-long program is to furnish participants with strategies for kick-starting their summer projects, identifying internal and external obstacles, planning for the long and short term, and creating or renewing support teams. Brief weekly check-ins with a partner (via email, telephone, or Teams) and once-monthly (June, July, August), facilitator-led, small group check-ins will provide community and the necessary accountability to maintain consistency throughout the summer months. 

Who Can Participate? This program welcomes faculty from all colleges, disciplines, and career stages.  

Facilitators:  

  • Sally Gendron, Professor of French/Cultural Studies, Faculty Fellow for the Office of Research and Innovation, and Faculty Coach for a national center for faculty success.
  • Aleks Snowden, Associate Professor of Criminology and Law Studies, Faculty Fellow for the Office of Research and Innovation.

Dates, Times, Locations:  

  • Bootcamp: May 13-17, 10:00-12:00, 707 Hub.
  • Teams Small Group Check-ins (3): mid-June, mid-July, mid-August (exact times and dates to be determined upon consultation with participants).

Application Process: 

  • By April 26th, please complete the online form here, indicating your college, discipline, career level. Please also provide a brief half-page description of the project (grant, article, chapter, etc.) you wish to move forward this summer and the reason you would like to participate in this program. Participation will be limited to a maximum of 20 people and will be chosen on a first-come, first-served basis.

Faculty honored at Distinguished Scholars Program

Twelve faculty members were honored Tuesday at the Distinguished Scholars Program, which recognizes faculty for outstanding achievement in research and scholarship.
