Procedure to Become a Radiation Worker

Marquette University students and research personnel who plan to work with radioisotopes under the supervision of an Authorized User must receive the required training to become a Radiation Worker.  To become a Radiation Worker, you must complete complete Parts I, II & III of the training program and take a short exam.  Please follow these steps:

  • View the Radiation Worker training video Parts I & II.  These videos (DVD) are available for check out from the ORC.  View the videos at home and return them to the ORC within 24 hours.

  • Once the videos have been viewed and returned, contact the Radiation Safety Officer to schedule the Part III training lecture.

  • Once Parts I, II & III have been completed, take a short quiz administered by the Radiation Safety Officer.  Stop by the ORC to have the quiz administered.

  • Download and complete the Affirmation of Training Statement (PDF), and have your supervising Authorized User sign the statement and return it to the ORC.

  • If you require a radiation badge, download and complete the Badge Request Form (PDF).

  • Fax or mail the Affirmation of Training Statement and the Badge Request Form to the Office of Research Compliance.  The ORC will have a radiation badge issued for your use when working with radioactive material.

  • Students may not begin working with radioactive materials until they have received notification of satisfactory exam results and have submitted an affirmation statement.  If badges are needed for radioactive materials use, students must wait until the badges have been received.
