Euthanasia

Euthanasia will be performed by facility investigators following the general principle of selecting the most humane method.

Animal euthanasia will be mediated by the protocols listed in Appendix II. When ether is used, carcasses will remain 3-4 hours in a ventilated area to permit the escape of all ether vapors. Ether containers MUST NOT be stored in cold rooms, refrigerators, or freezers unless such devices are marked "explosion-proof." Electrical devices and flames may ignite ether vapors and result in explosions. See appendix

If any other method is requested or indicated, prior approval of the IACUC is required.
