Senior Military Instructor
MSG Harrell is a native of Wisconsin; He enlisted in the Army Reserve on April 27, 1991 and went to Fort Leonard Wood, MO. for Basic and Advanced Individual Training as a Combat Engineer. Upon graduation he was presented with the Sapper Spirit Award and Trail Blazer Award. He was assigned to the 397th EN BN in Wausau, WI. While there he served as a Sapper, M60 Machine Gunner, and Driver.
On March 25, 1993 MSG Harrell joined the Active Army and was sent to the Fort Stewart, GA and was assigned to Bravo Co. 3rd Engineer Battalion, 24th Infantry Division. While with Bravo Company he served as Team Leader, Squad Leader, and Platoon Sergeant. While in the position of Squad Leader he was presented with the ACE Award (Squad Leader of the Year). After five years he was sent to Fort Jackson, SC and attended the Basic Recruiter Course.

After graduation he was assigned to the Stevens Point Recruiting Station under the Fort McCoy Recruiting Company. He remained on recruiting duty for three years being presented with his Recruiter Ring and recognized as Top Regular Army Recruiter for several quarters and also Recruiter of the Year in 2001.
In Dec. of 2001 MSG Harrell was assigned to 8th Army in Yong Son, Seoul Korea. His duties included Readiness NCO and Readiness Branch Chief with HHC Engineer cell. He was also in charge of the Topographical cell and Terrain Imaging.
After a year in Korea, MSG Harrell returned to the 3rd Infantry Division at Fort Stewart, GA. on Jan. 1, 2003. He was assigned as Operation Sergeant with 11th Engineer Battalion S-3 shop deploying to Operation Iraqi Freedom the following month. Returning from a six month deployment MSG Harrell was assigned as Platoon Sergeant of 1st PLT, Charlie Co. 11th Engineer Battalion. MSG Harrell deployed a second time to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom III from 2005-2006. In Sept. 2006 he was appointed as 1SG of Echo Co. 3-7 Infantry Battalion deploying once again in Oct. 2007 - Dec. 2009 in support of OIF 07-09 conducting route clearance missions for 14 months.
MSG Harrell currently serves as Senior Military Instructor at Marquette University, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
MSG Harrell is a graduate of the Warrior Leader Course, Basic Non Commission Officer Course, Advanced Non Commission Officer Course, Recruiter Course, Master Fitness, NBC Defense Course, and Basic Airborne Course.
MSG Harrell’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Meritorious Service Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Commendation Medal with three oak Leaf Clusters, Army Achievement Medal with nine Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Good Conduct Medal 5th Award, National Defense Service Medal with bronze star, Korean Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal with two bronze stars, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism service Medal, Non Commission Officer Professional Development Ribbon with numeral 3, Army Service Ribbon, Over Seas Service Ribbon with numeral 2, Army Reserve Overseas Training Ribbon, Presidential Unit Citation, Valorous Unit Award, Superior Unit Award, Gold Recruiter Badge with 3 star sapphires, Airborne Badge, Combat Action Badge, and Driver Badge.
MSG Harrell has also been awarded the Bronze Order of de Fleury Medal from the Engineer Regiment and is a member of the Audie Murphy Club.
MSG Harrell is married to Dorothy and has two children: Angela who is a 3rd grade teacher in Nacogdoches, TX. And Bryan who is an Emergency Medical Technician, Volunteer Fire Fighter, and certified welder.
